Chris Gray and Pastels - January 2025

Chris, one of our own members., shared her skills in the use of pastel work.

The aims of the workshop can be summarised as:

Importance of surface. It needs to be able to take several layers of pastel. Identifying Tones/values to strengthen composition
Working lightly all over the surface to identify the massing of light and dark areas. Look at shapes and tones, not objects.
Using hard and soft pastels.
Overlaying and blending colour, broken colour. How to get vibrant pale colours. Varying mark making to get movement through the composition. 

Everyone reported thoroughly enjoying the time together.
